USMNT Defeats Mexico in Nations League Final

The USA triumphed over Mexico in the Nations League final despite homophobic chants, with Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna securing a 2-0 victory for the US men’s national team. This win marks their third consecutive title in the CONCACAF Nations League, held in Arlington, Texas.

Having previously won the inaugural Nations League final in 2021 with a 3-2 victory over Mexico in extra time, and successfully defending their title in 2023 by defeating Mexico in the semi-final before overcoming Canada 2-0, the US team extends their dominance over their rivals. They maintain an unbeaten streak of seven games (5-0-2) against Mexico, with their last defeat dating back to September 6, 2019.

Tyler Adams, making his first start for the US since the World Cup 475 days ago, delivered a stunning goal just before halftime with a powerful strike from 35 yards out, into the upper left corner of the net. Despite his limited 45-minute appearance due to two previous hamstring surgeries, Adams made a significant impact before being substituted at halftime by Johnny Cardoso.

Gio Reyna, who provided key assists in the semi-final win over Jamaica, continued his fine form by scoring from the upper left side of the box shortly after the hour mark. Christian Pulisic’s skillful dribble set up the opportunity, with Reyna capitalizing on the rebound from a clearance by Mexican defender Johan Vasquez. Reyna now boasts two goals and five assists in his last five Nations League appearances.

A penalty was awarded to Mexico’s Santiago Gimenez in the 72nd minute, following a high kick by Antonee Robinson. However, the decision was swiftly overturned after a video review, with Gimenez receiving a card for simulation.
