Florian Wirtz Makes History with Record-Breaking Goal as Germany Defeats France

Florian Wirtz made history by scoring just seven seconds into the game as Germany triumphed over France in a friendly match in Lyon, putting an end to their three-game winless streak. The 20-year-old swiftly capitalized on Toni Kroos’ pass from kick-off, directing a deflected shot into the top left corner.

This lightning-fast goal marks the quickest ever scored by a German player, showcasing Wirtz’s remarkable talent. Later in the game, Kai Havertz secured victory for Julian Nagelsmann’s team by converting Jamal Musiala’s cutback.

While France had a few chances, including a missed opportunity by Kylian Mbappe, they struggled to break through Germany’s defense. Near the end of the match, Germany’s Antonio Rudiger inadvertently hit the crossbar while attempting to clear the ball, providing a brief scare for his team.

The return of 34-year-old Kroos, who came out of international retirement, had an immediate impact, as his precise pass to Wirtz set the tone for the game. This goal marked Wirtz’s debut goal for Germany, almost breaking the record for the fastest international goal, only surpassed earlier on the same day by Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner. The previous record was held by Lukas Podolski, who scored for Germany in just over seven seconds in 2013 against Ecuador.
