Takehiro Tomiyasu has inked a fresh deal with Arsenal, extending his tenure at the club until at least 2026. The Japanese international joins the ranks of defenders securing their future with the Premier League frontrunners, with his agreement coming shortly after Ben White’s renewal. Originally set to expire next year, Tomiyasu’s contract now includes a provision for a potential 12-month extension.
Expressing his dedication to Arsenal and its supporters, Tomiyasu stated, “I’m playing for Arsenal and this means I’m playing for Arsenal’s supporters. I want to give them something back.” Despite facing setbacks due to calf issues and international duty at the Asia Cup, as well as recovering from knee surgery, Tomiyasu has proven his versatility and worth to manager Mikel Arteta. While predominantly utilized as a full-back, he has also excelled as a center-half for Japan.
Arteta praised Tomiyasu’s attributes, highlighting his exceptional attitude, mentality, and commitment to self-improvement. The 25-year-old, who previously featured for Sint-Truiden and Avispa Fukuoka, has made 73 appearances for Arsenal, netting his maiden goal against Sheffield United last October.
