Al-Nassr’s AFC Champions League Journey Ends in Heartbreak Despite Ronaldo’s Efforts

Al-Nassr, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, exited the AFC Champions League in a quarterfinal loss to Al-Ain after a penalty shootout. Despite trailing 1-0 after the first leg, Al-Nassr fell behind 3-0 on aggregate before staging a comeback to force extra time. Ronaldo’s late penalty leveled the aggregate score at 4-4, but Al-Nassr ultimately lost 3-1 in the shootout. Despite Ronaldo’s efforts, including a missed opportunity earlier, Al-Nassr couldn’t secure victory, with Otavio’s miss sealing their fate in the shootout.

Cristiano Ronaldo demonstrated a gesture of apology towards Al Nassr supporters after scoring a crucial penalty kick against Al Ain during Monday’s AFC Champions League quarter-final. Despite putting Al Nassr ahead 4-3 on the night and leveling the aggregate score at 4-4, Ronaldo’s goal came after numerous missed opportunities, including a glaring miss from close range earlier in the game. Initially celebrating his milestone 750th club career goal with his trademark ‘SIU’ routine, Ronaldo later appeared to express remorse for his earlier misses by gesturing apologetically as he walked back towards the halfway line.

Following his late goal, Ronaldo converted another penalty kick during the subsequent shootout. However, despite his efforts, Al Nassr suffered a 3-1 defeat in the shootout, with misses from Alex Telles, Otavio, and Marcelo Brozovic contributing to their loss against Al Ain.
