City of Boston Declares March 2nd as Burna Boy Day

Adding to a prestigious list of Nigerian artists honored in the United States, Burna Boy has now been granted his own official day by the City of Boston.

Since gaining international acclaim, Burna Boy has been a leading force in promoting African music worldwide through his innovative blending of genres and captivating stage performances.

In a significant milestone, March 2nd has been designated as Burna Boy Day, with the inaugural celebration scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd, 2024. The announcement came through a press release by Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune, acknowledging Burna Boy’s role in elevating African culture and values through his music. The release also highlighted his advocacy efforts, sparking crucial conversations on social justice, representation, and equality.

Recognizing the substantial contributions of Nigerians, the largest African immigrant community in the United States and Massachusetts, the City of Boston underscores their vital role in enriching the nation’s cultural tapestry.

With this declaration, Burna Boy joins the esteemed ranks of Wizkid and Davido, solidifying his impact and influence as a Nigerian musician on the global stage.
