In a surprising turn of events, Liverpool’s esteemed manager, Jurgen Klopp (56), has revealed his decision to step down from his position at the conclusion of the current season. Despite recently guiding Liverpool to the League Cup final, Klopp had informed the club’s leadership of his intention to conclude his eight-and-a-half-year tenure at Anfield back in November.
Joining Klopp in this departure are assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as confirmed by Liverpool.
Expressing his decision, Klopp shared on Liverpool’s website, “It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment, when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it – or at least try to explain it.”

Despite his deep love for every aspect of the club, city, supporters, team, and staff, Klopp emphasized that the decision is a necessary one for him, stating, “I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again.”
Klopp, a key figure since joining Liverpool in October 2015, has achieved significant success, securing the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup, and Community Shield during his tenure.
Fenway Sports Group President, Mike Gordon, acknowledged Klopp’s immense contributions, saying, “In keeping with Jurgen’s expressed wishes, we will save the comprehensive tributes for a more appropriate time. Nevertheless, we would be remiss if we did not take this opportunity to reaffirm that his appointment remains one of the greatest blessings of our time as owners.”
Klopp’s departure comes after a remarkable 2019-20 season, where he led Liverpool to their first league title since 1990. The previous season saw Liverpool clinching the Champions League, defeating Tottenham Hotspur in a memorable final.
