The first Afro Nation Nigeria organizers have canceled the event, which was originally set for December 19 and 20, 2023. This is a regrettable development. On October 31, 2023, they issued a statement via X, that it would be impossible to produce an event that would meet Nigeria’s high expectations.

The statement reads: “Regrettably, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will no longer take place. As event organizers, we set exceptionally high standards for ourselves, and it has become evident that we cannot, at this time, produce an event of the caliber that Nigeria deserves in December 2023.
“We take pride in our role in the Afrobeats community, providing a platform for artists to connect with their fans and creating events that positively impact the culture worldwide. We have successfully hosted remarkable shows in Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit. However, Nigeria holds a special place in our hearts, and we are deeply saddened that we won’t be celebrating with you this year.
“Rest assured, we are fully committed to delivering an Afro Nation show in Lagos that we can all be proud of.
This cancellation is undoubtedly disheartening news for Nigerian fans who were eagerly anticipating the Afro Nation Festival experience. The festival had previously announced headliners including Burna Boy, J Hus, Flavour, Seyi Vibez, and Black Sherif, with the event scheduled to take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.
With the Afro Nation Nigeria cancellation, Ghana remains the only African country to have hosted the global festival.
