Apple’s Upcoming ‘Scary Fast’ Event

Apple has announced its second product event of the season, which comes a month after it introduced its new iPhone 15 lineup. It is likely to feature the introduction of new iMacs.

The company has sent media invitations for a scheduled keynote on Monday, October 30, at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT, which is later than its usual event start time. The event will be accessible only via livestream; traditionally, Apple has hosted its product launches both in person and online.

The event’s tagline, “scary fast,” seems to indicate that Apple will likely unveil its next-generation silicon chip, the M3, in addition to celebrating Halloween. The company is expected to showcase new iMac computers powered by this powerful chipset in an effort to boost Mac sales, which have experienced a decline this year.

Apple is preparing a new 24-inch iMac that will run on a new M3 processor. The current iMac is almost two and a half years old, so it is overdue for an update. Apple launched the M1 iMac in May 2021 and has yet to update it with the M2 chip, found in the company’s MacBook, Mac Mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro lines.

Apple is known for keeping a tight lid on its product announcements, so we’ll have to wait until Monday’s event to see what’s in store. The prevailing speculation suggests that we will see a new M3 iMac. If Apple introduces the M3 chip in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, we may also see an update for the 13-inch MacBook Air. The 13-inch Pro is less popular and less likely to be the flagship product of Apple’s M3 MacBook announcement, given the strong demand for the 13-inch Air, which was last updated in June 2022 with an M2 chip.

As for the 15-inch MacBook Air, it’s not even six months old, which is too recent for an M3 update. There is a possibility that Apple may adjust the pricing between it and the 13-inch model, especially if the 13-inch model receives the M3, potentially leading to a price reduction for the 15-inch Air. This would align with Apple’s practice of phasing out older models to make room for new ones.
