The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla ended on a picture-perfect note with the unveiling of their official portraits, which were taken inside Buckingham Palace two days after their coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6….
The portraits capture the 74-year-old monarch wearing his royal regalia, including the Robe of Estate and the Imperial State Crown while sitting on an ornate chair and holding two important pieces of the crown jewels. Queen Camilla, on the other hand, donned her white coronation dress, Queen Mary’s crown, and the Robe of Estate in her solo portrait.
The royal couple also posed with senior members of the royal family, including Charles’ sister Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence; brother Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh and his wife Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh; son Prince William, the Prince of Wales and his wife Kate, the Princess of Wales; as well as the late Queen Elizabeth II’s first cousins, Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent; Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester and his wife Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester; and Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy.
The portraits were taken by the royal family’s go-to photographer, Hugo Burnand, and marked the end of a weekend full of celebrations for Charles, who was coronated eight months after the death of his mother, Elizabeth, in September 2022. In a message posted to the royal family’s Twitter on May 8, Charles expressed his gratitude to those who joined in the celebrations and thanked them for their support and encouragement. He stated that their kindness expressed in various ways was the greatest possible Coronation gift, as he and Camilla now rededicate their lives to serving the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, and Commonwealth
