International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement, bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
Imagine a gender-equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
IWD sees a number of MISSIONS to help forge a gender-equal world.
Celebrating women’s achievements and increasing visibility, while calling out inequality, is key.
For the year, the UN theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.
This theme is aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67).
As you already know, from the earliest days of computing to the present age of virtual reality and artificial intelligence, women have made untold contributions to the digital world in which we increasingly live.
Their accomplishments have been against all odds, in a field that has historically neither welcomed nor appreciated them.
This 8 March, women are calling on governments, activists and the private sector alike to power on in their efforts to make the digital world safer, more inclusive and more equitable.
