Oba Francis Olushola Alao, paramount ruler, and the Olugbon of the Orile-Igbon kingdom joined us on #yourviewtvc for an exclusive chat.
Sharing his opinion on a recent statement made by Olori Sekinat Elegushi the first wife of Elegushi of Ikate land, Oba Saheed Elegushi where she claimed that it is impossible for a man to be faithful in a marriage or committed relationship.
Oba Francis Olushola Alao says marrying more than one wife is not for him.
“I partially disagree with what said, men generally one way or the other because of loss, one will cheat but why I disagree because she made it a general thing and not all men cheat so if you want to talk in terms of the ratio or the percentage base on statistics, well fine we will say all men cheat but then again not all men cheat.
“Regarding kings, it is a common norm that traditionally they may have one or two, three, four or five wives but some kings may decide to go otherwise because this is a generational thing now, the world is not static. What was applicable to kings in those days is what it is presently.
“For me, as a person, I have decided to choose one wife, I can’t, maybe is my own nature because all this pressure on the throne now begin to have domestic pressure again at home, battling several women so it depends on how the person in charge handles it.”
In the interview with BBC, Olori Sekinat Elegushi shared that “a man that will not womanise is yet to be born.”
She said, “One cannot meet a man who does not womanise. He has not been born o. Ah! It’s not possible. He is yet to be born,” asserted the queen in the Yoruba language.
“God has given me the virtues of patience and endurance since I was young. My husband knows I don’t make a fuss about other women because I know he loves me and puts me first.”
When asked about her reaction to her husband having a second wife, Mrs Elegushi flippantly dismissed the matter. She said she sees her husband’s relationship with the second wife as only an affair.
“She can be a “girlfriend” outside my marriage o, that one is normal. But I remain my husband’s wife. My husband is my husband,” the queen insisted.
“I have decided to choose one wife” – Oba Francis Olushola Alao says while sharing his thoughts on Oba’s marrying more than one wife.
