Meet Multi-Talented Filmmakers both Focused on Telling Authentic Stories (VIDEO)

We were joined by two filmmakers, Josh Olaoluwa and Lucky Orire, and they are both focused on telling authentic stories.

Josh Olaoluwa is a film producer who is keen on creating content with strong African narratives. His most recent works have been featured on MTV Base, CNN, Netflix and the Smithsonian Institute.

In November 2021, he received one of the only 8 Nationwide Scholarships to study Producing and the Business of Film at the Pan-Atlantic University, where he expanded his knowledge of African cinema.

As a commercial producer, he has produced online campaigns for brands like Unity bank, Cadbury and Redbull where he worked with Nigerian pop stars such as Joeboy, and Tems.

Currently, Josh works as a producer at Africa’s foremost film studio Ebony Life, where he collaboratively produces African originals for a global audience.

When Josh is not making films, he teaches kids between 7-13 years old how to use the camera.

According to Mr Lucky Orire, Film and telling stories is the only thing he knows how to do it started a little way back in 2014 on campus and so far it has been n interesting journey for him.

For Mr Josh Olaoluwa while Lucky had clarity about wanting to be a filmmaker from day one, for him, he just wanted to have good grades and Japa.

“I wasn’t really interested in films. We got enrolled for directing in film school, I did the cinematography and we both got scholarships I ended up shooting the best film at the academy at the time.

Before then we were not taking money for films but after we better our craft we started making money.”

Josh and Luck have won so many awards for filmmaking, they have won “Best Director for Naked Woman”, A nomination from San Fransico Film Festival, Afrimma Award and globally the largest museum in the world reached out to them to have the movie ‘Naked Woman’ in the screen in celebration of Nigeria creativity and independent and it was one of the only 3 short films globally from Nigeria.

The Naked woman had about 9 nominations in Toronto and Ije has about 15 festivals around the world.

Reacting to this news, the duo said, “As a filmmaker, it is very important for our journey to see that our content can travel and it is not us trying to know someone who knows someone to put us there. We still can’t believe that happened to us. We were basically one of the three short films selected. This gave us the drive to do more”
