Adoption is the social, emotional, and legal process in which children who will not be raised by their birth parents become full and permanent legal members of another family while maintaining genetic and psychological connections to their birth family.
However, a heartbroken woman has turned her back on her entire family after discovering she is adopted through an online DNA test. The 28-year-old claims her “whole life has been a lie” – and those closest to her have been keeping the truth from her for their own benefit.
She explained how she ordered an online DNA kit to test for a genetic disorder following a hospital visit. She said: “I’ve been crying for the past few days. My whole life was a lie. I wasn’t trying to find out. I never felt differently.
“Two years ago my doctor told me I have a genetic disorder. I asked my parents if they have the same disorder they said no. They’re both not carriers.
“I thought my doctor was wrong so I asked again. He said one of my parents had to be carriers. I asked my parents again. They told me to find a different doctor because he was wrong.
“Well, I did. I also got one of those DNA test kits you can get online. I wanted to find out more about my genetics.
“If my parents don’t have what I have someone in my family does. Well, a few months later everything changed.”
Not only did she discover that she was the only one in her family with the genetic disorder, but her lineage didn’t match up with any of her family members either.
“Finding out I’m adopted. My parents told me they didn’t want me to find out because they didn’t want me to feel out of place or different.
“They wanted to raise me as their own. They actually blamed me for snooping.”
Her parents tried to regain her trust by saying “we are still family and DNA doesn’t change that” – but it was too late.
She no longer wanted anything to do with them because they’d lied to her face for 28 years.
“My life has been a lie. I don’t know what to do right now. My mom isn’t my real mom and my dad isn’t my real dad. My siblings aren’t my real siblings.” she added
