A soccer fan on Friday set himself ablaze in the Hartlepool close, Greater Manchester, Police have stated.
The incident, believed to have happened in an alley backing onto Rosebury Street, is however not being treated with much suspicion by the Police as they believe the man may have set himself ablaze.
An anonymous witness said he saw a man on the floor on fire and saw two people rush over to help him.
He said: “He walked across the grass on fire and sat down.”
Quite luckily for him, a policeman was said to be in place in the residential street at the time of the occurrence, the Manchester Evening News reported
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Shortly before 2pm, police, fire and ambulance services were called to Hartlepool Close in Moss Side to reports that a man was on fire.
“The emergency services arrived and found a 40-year-old man with serious burns. He was treated at the scene then taken to hospital where he is now in a life threatening condition.
“Enquiries are ongoing, however police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances.”
The 40-year-old victim is now being treated in Wythenshawe Hospital suffering from serious burns.
