The unethical filming of Rico Swavey, a deceased former housemate on Big Brother Naija, by individuals who were allegedly medical staff members has been the subject of an investigation by the Lagos State government.
The 30-second video clip showing the final moments of a former reality TV star, at a hospital in Lagos State has attracted condemnation from members of the public.
It was observed that the nurses were attempting to carry him on a bed when one of the on-duty nurses allegedly recorded the former Big Brother Naija’s housemate as he fought for his life.
Another nurse was heard cautioning her colleague against the act.
“You people should stop making the video; somebody is dying, you people are making video,” the nurse said.
Reacting to the video, a marketing strategist, Samuel Atigba, condemned the action of the nurses.
Using his verified Twitter handle, @SamuelOtigba, he wrote, “Anytime I watch that video of the nurses joking, laughing and making needless videos of Rico for social media instead of giving him the necessary urgent attention needed to save his life, my heart breaks over again cause he could have survived. RIP Rico.”
Social media users were outraged by the video and demanded an investigation.
Gbenga Omotoso, the commissioner for information and strategy, declared that the authorities had opened an inquiry.
“That hospital is not a government hospital; we have started an investigation into the unprofessional conduct of those who appeared in that video,” Omotoso said.
