In celebration of Nigeria’s 62nd Independence, four hundred and thirty-seven nominees have been shortlisted to receive national honours.
This list includes five Grand Commanders of the Order of the Niger (GCON), fifty-four Commanders of the order of the Federal Republic (CFR), sixty-seven Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), sixty-four Officers of the Order of Federal Republic (OFR), one hundred and one Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), seventy-five Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), fifty-six Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), and eight Federal Republic Medal (FRM).
Amongst the seventy-five shortlisted for the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), we have Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy who appears at number fifty-three for his achievement at the Grammy in 2021, when his album ‘Twice as Tall’ won the World Album category.
Also amongst the fifty-six shortlisted for the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), we have the legendary singer, 2Baba and singing sensation, Teni who appears on numbers twenty-two and twenty-three on the list.
Just so you know the national award is in recognition of their accomplishments in music and their service to the country in various capacities.
The award is scheduled to hold on October 11th in Aso Rock where President Muhammadu Buhari will present the recipients with their medals.
