A few weeks ago we gave you a report that according to the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC), no Nollywood film passed the eligibility criteria for the Oscars.
Now in a different twist, Nollywood filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan has come out to state otherwise.
Reacting to the committee’s verdict, Kunle Afolayan took to Twitter writing, “I am so pleased and delighted that the whole world has decided to tagged ANIKULAPO film “a masterpiece” even though the Nigeria Oscar selection committee think it’s not worth submitting for the Oscars. Will keep making doing my own thing.” #Oscars #nosc #AfricanCinema
He tweeted alongside a photo of his new movie ‘Anikulapo’ being in the top 10 movies in various countries on the streaming platform Netflix.
If you would recall, according to a statement released and signed by the chairperson of the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC), the fifteen-member community failed to reach a consensus on three contending titles due to their voting patterns.
An excerpt of the statement reads, “Although the committee received three epic films following its call for submissions in August, it turned out that none of them will advance to the next stage owing to the voting patterns of members.”
