Meet the first Nigerian comedian that built a helicopter

TVC E. We are pleased to inform you about the dream of the comedian ‘I Go Die’.

Growing up in the city of Warri, Delta state and becoming the Zonal Manager of Junior Engineering Technical Society (JET club) at the College of Commerce, Warri with amazing inventions like construction of first helicopter in Delta state, hover craft ship, radio transmitter and a battery table fan, the young Francis Agoda popularly known as I Go Dye, never saw a possible future in comedy.

Little did he know that his scientific prowess which earned him scholarship to study Structural Engineering in New York would create a leadway for him in the comedy industry.

This twist of fate started when he was interviewed on Delta State TV about his inventions in the early 90s, but ended up cracking the ribs of the interviewers with his responses.

At age 13, the comedian who was introduced to a veteran broadcaster Tunde Omonode started working in Delta State TV anchoring DTV Talk Show alongside his bossom friend, I Go Save among other shows.

In the early stage of his career, I Go Dye earned a Thousand Naira per show to perform in the first comedy club in Nigeria known as The Prest Motel in Benin City. Subsequently, he was introduced to Opa Williams, the organizer of Night of a Thousand Laugh after putting up an amazing performance at the Pre REEL Award. I Go Dye earned his first major breakthrough, when he performed on Night of A Thousand Laughs in the year 2000.

His appearance on the show which was at the time the biggest comedy platform in the country made him a house hold name and one of the most sought after comedians in Nigeria and Diaspora.

His outstanding contributions in the comedy industry have earned him several awards and recognitions. The most recent of them being his conferment as a United Nation’s Ambassador for Millennium Development Goals.

The comedian who is blessed with a beautiful wife and a handsome son came up with his stage name I Go Dye as a result of people’s inability to pronounce his surname (Agoda) properly.
