Dlala Thukzin born Thuthuka Zindlovu in 1997, is a South African dance music producer whose diverse palette allows him to move fluidly between Afrotech, gqom, amapiano, and other genres.
Thukzin used to help his deejay uncle move sound equipment to concerts while growing up in Lamontville, Durban in the 2000s, a duty that eventually drew him into DJing and music creation.
He began his start as a producer on Babes Wodumo‘s 2016 first album, Gqom Queen, Vol. 1, which helped popularize the genre that began in Durban.
Thukzin‘s 2021 hit “Phuze” was one of his first successful experiments into Amapiano, combining the popular genre’s rich pads with gqom’s thwacking percussion. Permanent Music (2020) and Permanent Music 2 (2021) exhibit his ability to embrace new sounds while keeping a gqom accent.
