"There Is Nothing Wrong In Recording A Police Man Harassing You" PRO Police Force Talks On Brutality

A video showing police brutality in Cross Rivers State has raised fears as an officer was filmed flogging a man not holding any dangerous weapon in Ekori Community of the State.

An eyewitness who recorded and uploaded the clips online called the attention of the public to help share the video to show Nigerians what their people are going through.

Reacting to the video, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Commissioner of Police in the state has been contacted and necessary action will be taken on the incident.

Adejobi tweeted: Too bad. I will take this up. Whatever his offense, this was uncalled for.. the CP has been contacted and we will take necessary action.”

Giving an update on the case, Adejobi in an interview with the Ladies of Your View, said,

“It’s quite unfortunate that we are seeing that scene again and I want you to know that it is an individual scene. No reasonable man should use cutlass to flog anybody.

I don’t think if anybody wants to flog or punish his or her child, he will use cutlass to flog not alone a grown man, a Nigerian, an unharmed Nigerian. It’s quite unfortunate and we condemn that in totality.

I want to assure you that the policeman has been identified, and the IDP has directed for him to be brought to the force headquarters for proper disciplinary action. We are going to look into that matter objectfully.

The policeman will be brought to the police force headquarters tomorrow by the Commissioner of police in charge of Cross River State, CPU Aminu Alassan.

Don’t let me be judgemental about the outcome of the trial or procedure, but whatever it is, we are going to keep you people informed. As you can see, this present administration will not tolerate any act of unprofessionalism or indiscipline.”

Would you advise Citizens to use phones to record cases? What should one do as a Nigerian to get a response?

“What I have noticed is that most Nigerians don’t like seeing policemen in any way. When they see a policeman at a distance, they pick offense.

It’s because of this hatred that we are having this gap and we should not be having this gap. Police are part of the system, you cannot spell woman without man, she without he.

These are two entities that are highly inseparable so if we see POLICEMEN/MAN on the road, respect is reciprocal. Talk to them they are humans as well.

I can’t stop you on the road to talk to you and the music in your vehicle is so high that you can even hear me. You feel unconcern, the policemen on the road are humans and they are there to do the job the way it’s supposed to be done, to maintain law and order.

So when you see them at their point, respect them and I am sure they will respect you but in case you see those that want to go out of their power, that’s why we have gargets everywhere.

There is nothing wrong if you are taking videos or taking pictures of policemen because they also have the right too to do the same. Anybody can record anybody at any time if you have a case to prove.

Except you’re doing something wrong that’s when you will have problems of being recorded.”
