Today, March 17, 2016, marks the 30th birthday of Nigerian singer cum producer, Gabriel Ochei Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G.
Terry G was born in Lagos on March 17, 1986, which coincidentally happened to be his mother’s birthday. He started singing in the choir of his local church
He was introduced to music by his mother, a choir mistress, who encourage him to join the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Praise Palace, Oko-Oba Choir and his time as a chorister enabled him to learn the basics of music.
The ‘Akpako master’, as he is fondly called, had his tutelage under Faze (a member of the defunct Plantashun Boiz music group), providing back-up vocals and honing his musical skills.
Amanyi rose to fame in 2006, when he was featured on Kemistry’s hit single, Shake, a song he also produced, marking the first sign of versatility in music.
When in 2008, he released the hit single, Love You Sexy, off his debut album, Free Me, it was an instant hit due to the lyrics and dancehall beat. His debut album also contained hit songs like Otipe, Shile and Ihotu.
As a producer, The Free Madness singer has worked with, Timaya, Ill Bliss, Side One, AY.com among others.
