Tribunal fails to commence pre-hearing on Kogi Gov. election petition

TVC E, POLITICS – The pre-hearing in the Kogi state governorship election petition expected to hold on Tuesday couldn’t hold as scheduled.

However, party supporters were in Abuja to witness the hearing of petitions challenging the emergence of Yahaya Bello as governor.

Crowd of supporters, families and friends from kogi state converged on the tribunal in Abuja.

The courtroom was filled to its capacity with more supporters milling around, many anxiously waiting to see how the day’s proceeding, would turn out.

The arrival of the three man panel, headed by Justice Halima Mohammed, set the pace for the day.

But the pre hearing of the suits filed by James Faleke, the immediate past governor of the state, Idris Wada and four other political parties, could not heard because the six applications were not served before the day’s proceedings.

The chairperson, justice halima mohammed then ordered that the motions be served on all parties before the next adjourned dates.

Counsel to the incumbent governor, Mahmud magaji, is praying the court to strike out the applications of most of the petitioners on the ground that they lack merit.

Speaking to newsmen after the days proceedings, counsels to Faleke and the PDP, say they are challenging the infractions that took place in the state during the election.

James Faleke, who was present in court, feels the decision of INEC, was illegal. Faleke and immediate past governor, Idris Wada of the PDP, are challenging the declaration of Yahaya Bello of All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the poll.

The African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Labour Party, Progressive Peoples’ Alliance are the other petitioners.
