Controversial Nigerian entertainer Speed Darlington, born Darlington Okoye, has once again stirred public conversation after releasing a defiant video response to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). The agency recently declared him wanted over alleged offences including rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking following his failure to honour an official invitation.
The controversy stems from a disturbing live Instagram video in which Speed Darlington claimed to have had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl—an admission that sparked outrage across social media. NAPTIP issued a formal summons for questioning, which he ignored. On June 21, 2025, the agency posted a public “wanted” notice across its official social media platforms, urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.
In his video response, Speed Darlington denied committing any crime and accused NAPTIP of clout-chasing. “I didn’t commit any crime,” he said, admitting that his only mistake was making an irresponsible statement. He dismissed the charges as baseless and claimed that women without husbands were behind the outcry, which he believes pressured the agency into action. “Cyberbullying? Cyberstalking? Who did I bully or stalk? You people are just throwing big English around,” he said, visibly dismissive of the allegations.
The artist argued that the agency was leveraging his name to appear relevant and insisted that he would not respond to their call. He further claimed that no individual was named, tagged, or directly referenced in the video, thereby challenging the credibility of the charges.
Speed Darlington’s refusal to engage with NAPTIP and his inflammatory comments have sparked further backlash, with many calling for accountability and stressing the serious nature of the allegations. Critics argue that regardless of his intention—whether serious or as a “publicity stunt”—joking about such topics is irresponsible and harmful.
As the case unfolds, the spotlight remains on both NAPTIP’s next course of action and the broader conversation around social media accountability, influencer behavior, and the legal implications of online content.
