Popular Lagos socialite and businessman Emeka Okonkwo, better known as E-Money, has regained his freedom after facing hours of questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The agency invited him over allegations of currency abuse and the defacement of foreign currency, after a viral video showed him spraying U.S. dollars at a public event.
EFCC officials reportedly picked him up on Monday night from his residence in the Omole area of Lagos and transported him to their headquarters in Abuja. According to sources within the commission, the interrogation focused on violations of Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act and the Central Bank’s policies on currency handling and abuse.
Although the EFCC has not yet issued an official statement, E-Money took to Instagram to reassure his fans. In a video shared on his verified account @iam_emoney1, he appeared seated in his lavish home with the gospel song “Thank You for Saving Me, Thank You My Lord” playing in the background. He captioned it, “No tension, everywhere good. I see all your love and support. God bless you all.”
Celebrity barman and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest also confirmed the news on Instagram. He wrote, “My brother don fall out. To God be the glory,” signaling E-Money’s safe return home.
E-Money, known for his flamboyant lifestyle, generosity, and large social media following, continues to play a prominent role in Nigeria’s entertainment and business scenes. His encounter with the EFCC has sparked widespread conversation about the legal risks of money spraying and the government’s efforts to curb currency abuse at public events.
As the EFCC intensifies its enforcement of financial laws, this incident highlights the growing accountability for public figures who break currency-related regulations.
