Drake Petitions California Governor for Tory Lanez Pardon

Canadian rapper Drake has added his voice to the growing calls for a pardon for Tory Lanez, urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to intervene in the case. In an Instagram Story post, Drake shared a link to a Change.org petition titled “Correct a Deep Injustice,” alongside the caption: “@torylanez come home soon.”

The petition claims that Lanez’s 2023 conviction for the shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion was unfair and lacked solid physical evidence. It also accuses the judicial process of applying politically motivated sentencing enhancements. Over 250,000 supporters have signed the petition so far.

Tory Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for the 2020 shooting incident, which took place after a party in the Hollywood Hills. Lanez was convicted of firing a weapon that injured Megan in the foot during a vehicle argument.

Public attention on the case has recently surged again after reports surfaced that Lanez was stabbed 14 times by another inmate. He was reportedly treated at a Bakersfield medical facility before being returned to the prison hospital.

While Governor Newsom does hold the power to issue a pardon under California state law, his office has not released any official comment on the matter. Drake’s endorsement has brought significant celebrity weight to the campaign, but it remains to be seen whether it will impact the legal outcome.
