Bigiano on Turning Down Mo’Hits: My Biggest Mistake

Bigiano Reminisces on Rejecting MoHits Records Offer from Don Jazzy

Nigerian singer Bigiano, best known for his 2009 hit single Shayo, is looking back at a career-defining decision he now regrets deeply. In a recent interview with Cool FM, the artist—real name Oluwagbemiga Babalolareminisced on rejecting Don Jazzy’s offer to join MoHits Records, calling it the biggest mistake of his music career.

At the height of Shayo’s success, Bigiano was invited by D’banj, his close friend and MoHits co-founder, to the MoHits house. It was there that Don Jazzy personally offered him a place on the label. However, Bigiano turned it down, citing concerns about losing his independence and freedom to book shows.

“Instead of me to say yes, I felt I was already becoming popular and independent,” he shared. “That would have been a big turnaround for my career.”

He explained that everyone in the MoHits camp, including Wande Coal and Dr. Sid, showed him love and respect. Looking back, he now wishes he had said yes without hesitation.

“If I could rewind time, I’d go back and say yes—even three times,” Bigiano said.

Bigiano’s Shayo was a major hit in 2009, earning him nominations at the MTV Africa Music Awards and the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. He also took home multiple wins at the Sound City Music Video Awards, including Best Music Video and Viewers’ Choice of the Year.
