Ayra Starr Makes History as First Nigerian Female Artist to Surpass One Billion YouTube Views

Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has reached a major milestone, becoming the first Nigerian female artist to surpass one billion views on YouTube — a groundbreaking achievement that cements her position as a trailblazer in the global music scene.

The Grammy-nominated star now joins the ranks of Nigerian music giants like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Rema, and CKay, all of whom have crossed the billion-view threshold. Her viral single ‘Rush’ played a pivotal role in this success, racking up over 450 million views to become the most viewed Nigerian female music video of all time.

Originally released in 2022, Rush earned Ayra a UK platinum plaque and made her the first Nigerian female artist to debut a solo track on the UK Official Top 100 chart, further establishing her as a global ambassador of Afrobeats.

2025 is already another standout year for the artist. On April 25, Ayra dropped ‘Gimme Dat’ featuring Wizkid, a nostalgic track that samples Wyclef Jean’s classics ‘Diallo’ and ‘911’. The song is gaining rapid traction and is expected to climb the charts.

In addition, Ayra Starr secured two MOBO Awards and won Best R&B Single at the 17th Headies for her collaboration ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ with Giveon.

Ayra Starr’s billion-view accomplishment is more than a personal triumph — it marks a historic leap for female representation in Afrobeats, inspiring a new generation of artists.
