Shallipopi Vows to Boycott The Headies After Embarrassing Incident

Nigerian artiste Shallipopi has announced his decision to boycott future editions of The Headies following an embarrassing moment at the 17th edition held in Lagos on Sunday.

After losing the Next Rated category to his frequent collaborator, Odumodublvck, Shallipopi was reportedly comforted by a win for his song ‘Cast’ in the Best Rap Single of the Year category. However, upon receiving the award, the presenter only offered him a handshake, as organizers were said to have run out of plaques during the ceremony.

Shallipopi expressed his frustration on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he didn’t want the Best Rap Single award, as he doesn’t identify as a rapper. He further urged organizers to give the award to the “real rappers” in the category. “If you see me at the next one, I’ll bend. I don’t want that award. Give it to the real rappers,” he wrote.
