Veteran Juju music icon King Sunny Ade has debunked viral kidnap rumours in a newly released video, confirming that he is safe and well. The 78-year-old music legend responded following online claims initiated by his daughter, Damilola Adeniyi, who alleged that her brother and manager, Dayo, had abducted their father and forced him to perform against his will.
In the video shared online, King Sunny Ade clarified the situation, explaining that his children were concerned after he took a brief personal break. Speaking in Yoruba and English, he said, “My children thought I was kidnapped after I went away for a few days to rest. But I thank God, I was not kidnapped and I didn’t kidnap myself.”
Dayo Adegeye, who was accused in the incident, also released an official statement denying the kidnapping allegations. He assured the public that King Sunny Ade is in good health and high spirits. “There is no truth to the kidnapping rumor. The family and team are working to stop the spread of this false information and protect King Sunny Ade’s legacy,” the statement said.
