Nigerian superstar Tiwa Savage has expressed her frustration over the constant criticism she faces for her fashion choices, particularly in relation to her age.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Receipts Podcast, the singer addressed the double standards she encounters, especially when compared to global stars.
Tiwa pointed out how Beyonce, who is also in her 40’s is often praised for her beauty and confidence when wearing bikinis, while she herself faces age-shaming from Nigerians.
“They age-shame me every single day. They say, ‘A woman of your age, how can you be wearing a bikini?’ I can because I have a body,” she stated.
Emphasizing the double standards, Tiwa Savage added, “Beyonce is in her 40’s and wears bikinis, but Americans don’t age-shame her. They celebrate her, saying ‘for her age, black don’t crack’. It’s more appreciated when you look good as you get older.”
She also shared her thoughts on the criticism surrounding her son’s potential reaction, stating, “They always throw these things like, when her son grows up, he’s going to see this. My son is going to be like, my mum is a powerful and beautiful woman.”
