Nigeria’s box-office queen, Funke Akindele has once again broken a box-office record with her latest December release, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’.
The new movie has broken the record of Nollywood’s highest-grossing one-day performance with eighty-seven point eight million naira and the biggest opening weekend of all time with two hundred and six million naira.
‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’ has now surpassed the opening weekend earnings of her 2023 blockbuster, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, which made one hundred and twelve million naira.
An official announcement by the film distributors reads, “A legendary record-breaking moment in the history of Nollywood #EverybodyLovesJenifa has smashed its way to the top with the highest-grossing of all time and strongest opening in 2024. Big cheers to the cast, crew, and you for making history with us.”
Reacting to this feat, Funke Akindele in a recent Instagram post celebrated her film’s groundbreaking success, sharing a snapshot of the box office numbers with the caption, “Thank you Lord!!! Thank you Nigeria!!! Thank you!”
Just so you know, in this movie, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, Funke Akindele brought back everybody’s favorite character, Jenifa, but this time she’s not just cracking us up with her misadventures, she’s also pulling at our heartstrings, with a mix of comedy, drama and some unexpected twists.
