Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stirred social media by sharing an image of a 7-foot-tall statue of his wife, Priscilla Chan.
Zuckerberg commissioned New York-based artist Daniel Arsham to create the statue and placed it in a lush garden.
In the Instagram post, Chan playfully asked, “The more of me the better?” The striking design features a flowing silver garment that combines elements of ancient Roman sculpture with a resemblance to the T-1000 from Terminator 2. Zuckerberg noted that the Roman tradition inspired him, stating he was “bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife.”
The sculpture showcases a reflective silver robe draped over a blueish-green figure, reminiscent of the weathered copper of the Statue of Liberty in New York. Its vibrant color and impressive size led to numerous online comparisons to characters from Avatar and jokes about Zuckerberg being the ultimate “wife guy.”
Zuckerberg and Chan met in 2003 while both were students at Harvard. They married in 2012 and have three daughters. Daniel Arsham, the artist behind the statue, explores “fictional archaeology” through his work across sculpture, architecture, drawing, and film. He recently opened the exhibition “Phases” at Fotografiska New York and is represented by Perrotin gallery.
Last month, employees of Arsham’s studio accused him of violating national labor laws in a complaint filed with the National Labor Relations Board.
