Manchester United has confirmed the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
The Premier League club announced these acquisitions on Tuesday. Sources reveal the total deal is valued at approximately £60 million ($76.6 million), including potential add-ons.
De Ligt, a Netherlands center-back, signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Moroccan full-back Mazraoui agreed to a four-year deal, with both contracts including an option for an additional year.
These signings bring Manchester United’s summer expenditure close to £140 million ($180 million). Earlier in the transfer window, the club acquired striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and defender Leny Yoro from Lille.
Both de Ligt and Mazraoui began their youth careers at Ajax Amsterdam and played under current United manager Erik ten Hag in the first team. De Ligt, 25, boasts an impressive track record, having won the Eredivisie with Ajax in the 2018-19 season, the Serie A title with Juventus in 2019-20, and the Bundesliga with Bayern in 2022-23.

“I felt a great excitement about the opportunity to join such a historic club as Manchester United,” de Ligt stated. “The vision laid out by the football leadership and the role they see for me was impressive. Erik ten Hag played a crucial role in my early career, and I look forward to working with him again. I am determined to succeed at this special club.”
Mazraoui’s Ambitions
Mazraoui, 26, joined Bayern from Ajax in 2022, making 55 appearances in all competitions and winning the Bundesliga and the DFL-Supercup in his debut season. He faced a brief injury setback last season.

“Reuniting with Erik ten Hag is exciting as I enter the prime years of my career,” Mazraoui said. “I know his expectations, and I will do everything I can to contribute to the team’s success.”
Departures and Team Challenges
The arrivals of de Ligt and Mazraoui come after right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s transfer to West Ham for a reported £15 million ($19.2 million) on Monday. Both new signings may soon be called into action, especially with Luke Shaw’s recent injury adding to Manchester United’s challenges. Shaw will miss the opening matches of the new Premier League season due to a calf injury sustained during pre-season training.
Injury Updates
“He is working diligently on his rehabilitation and aims to be available after the first international break,” United stated regarding Shaw.
French center-back Yoro is expected to return in about three months following successful surgery on a foot injury, as the club announced earlier in August.
