As the NFL and college football seasons draw near, Apple has rolled out major updates to its sports-focused app, Apple Sports.
These updates include the addition of Live Activities for all leagues, a “dynamic drive tracker” to visually represent the ball’s location on the field, and enhanced play-by-play support for football games.
Overview of Apple Sports
Launched in February, Apple Sports is a free iOS app tailored for sports enthusiasts. It offers real-time updates, scores, and statistics for 15 popular leagues, including NCAA basketball, MLS, MLB, NBA, WNBA, NHL, and the Premier League.
With the recent inclusion of NFL and college football support, Apple Sports introduces several exciting features. The standout is the Live Activities function, set to debut with iOS 18 and watchOS 11 this fall. This feature enables users to view live scores directly on their lock screens, ensuring they never miss a moment of the action. Currently available through the Apple TV app, Live Activities will fully transition to the Sports app once iOS 18 is released.
Dynamic Drive Tracker and Betting Odds
Another valuable addition is the dynamic drive tracker, which allows football fans to follow the ball’s position on the field in real time. Users can also access updated betting odds throughout the games, similar to the features available for other leagues covered by the app.
Apple has further improved the live play-by-play feature, making it easier for fans to track scoring drives and stay informed about key moments during the game. Later this year, Apple plans to introduce additional updates, including a new drop-down navigation for main scorecard views and better search functionality. The app’s coverage will also expand to include the Champions League and Europa League starting in September.

Currently, Apple Sports is available in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada, providing fans with a streamlined way to stay updated on their favorite teams and leagues. With these new features and future expansions, Apple Sports aims to become an essential tool for sports fans.
