Peggy, a four-year-old Pug Chinese Crested Mix from East Yorkshire, England, has gone from being the last dog to be adopted from a shelter to starring alongside Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the upcoming Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine. The dog, who won the UK’s Ugliest Dog photo competition last year, will play a sidekick to the offbeat superhero Deadpool, portrayed by Reynolds.
Peggy’s owner, Holly Middleton, discovered her online in 2018 when she was just six months old. Despite her unique appearance, which includes a lack of hair and a tongue that often hangs out to one side, Middleton fell in love with Peggy’s big brown eyes and “little tuft of white hair.”
In a post on Peggy’s official “Dogpool” Instagram account, the dog reflects on her journey from being a shelter dog to becoming a movie star. “A few years ago I was at the shelter wondering what I was going to do with my life. Now I’m in the biggest movie of the summer. Goes to show when you put in the work, you can manifest anything. From shelter dog to Shatterstar!”
Middleton hopes that Peggy’s story will encourage people to overlook the “little oddities” of dogs in shelters and give them a chance at finding a loving home. “Even though some people find Peggy’s unusual appearance strange, and in rare cases off-putting and despite Peggy winning the Ugliest Dog in the UK title, we think she is beautiful both inside and out, and wouldn’t change her for the world.”
Peggy’s rise to fame and her role in the upcoming Marvel movie serve as a heartwarming reminder that all animals deserve a chance at happiness and that true beauty lies within. Her story is a testament to the power of love, perseverance, and the belief that every dog, regardless of their appearance, has the potential to become a star in someone’s heart.
