Manchester United has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Manuel Ugarte regarding a potential transfer. The Red Devils aim to continue their recruitment from the French league after recently signing Leny Yoro and are now intensifying their pursuit of Ugarte.
The Uruguayan midfielder, represented by Jorge Mendes (the same agent as Yoro), is eager to join United, even though the club cannot currently offer Champions League football, as noted by Fabrizio Romano.
Ongoing Negotiations with PSG
According to Mail Sport, no agreement exists between Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at this time, as PSG is unwilling to sell Ugarte for less than £59 million. The 23-year-old joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon last summer for £42 million, and the club is hesitant to sell a player who fits their strategy of building a younger team.
Negotiations between United and PSG are ongoing but remain in the early stages, despite progress on personal terms. United also faces competition from other European and Premier League clubs interested in Ugarte. Bayern Munich has inquired about the midfielder’s availability, while two Italian clubs and another Premier League team have contacted PSG regarding a potential deal.
Potential Midfield Departures
Before finalizing Ugarte’s transfer, Manchester United may need to offload another midfielder. Scott McTominay, who scored 10 goals last season, is among those who could make way for Ugarte’s arrival. Veteran midfielder Casemiro could also depart after a challenging second season at Old Trafford, where United finished eighth in the Premier League.
United has been active in the transfer market this offseason, already completing deals for Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee. Upon announcing Yoro’s signing from Lille, the 18-year-old expressed his excitement about joining a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United, highlighting the clear development plan laid out for him.
