Manchester City Secures £30 Million Deal for Brazilian Winger Savinho from Troyes

Manchester City has completed its first summer signing, acquiring Brazilian winger Savinho from Troyes for a reported fee of £30 million. The Premier League champions have secured the talented 20-year-old on a five-year contract.

Savinho’s Journey and Impact

Savinho joined Troyes in 2022 but spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Girona, playing a crucial role in helping the Spanish club qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time. Last season, he made a significant impact at Girona, starting in 35 league games and finishing with the third-highest assists in the league at 10, along with nine goals while playing on the left wing. His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Brazil national team in March, where he has since made seven appearances and scored his first international goal during Brazil’s 4-1 victory over Paraguay in the Copa America group stages.

“I’m thrilled about the opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest coaches of all time, who I know will help me develop further,” Savinho stated on the club’s website. “I had a fantastic experience in Spain and am eager for the new challenge of playing in the Premier League alongside some of the world’s best players. I can’t wait to meet the fans and my new teammates and contribute to more success at City.”

Regulatory and Transfer Details

Despite being signed as a record transfer for Troyes, Savinho never played for the club. UEFA regulations prevent transfer activities between clubs owned by the same group competing in the same league. However, since Troyes is Savinho’s parent club and not Girona, Manchester City proceeded with the deal.

City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, expressed excitement about the signing, stating, “Savinho is a very exciting player, and I believe City fans will enjoy watching him. His achievements at Girona were remarkable, and he is already a full international for Brazil. He has a significant role to play for Manchester City this season and beyond. We are confident in his abilities; he is still young and has the potential to improve further, especially under Pep’s guidance. His quality and technical skills make him a thrilling addition to our attacking lineup.”
