Kendrick Lamar‘s hit single “Not Like Us” has returned to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, fueled by the release of its music video on Independence Day. The track, which previously reached the summit nine weeks ago during Kendrick’s feud with Drake, has now broken another record held by the Canadian rapper.
“Not Like Us” has not dropped below sixth place on the chart since its debut at No. 1. It marks Kendrick’s first number-one single to spend multiple weeks at the top without a featured artist. The song’s success stems from its impressive streaming numbers, becoming the fastest rap song to reach 500 million streams on Spotify in just 70 days, surpassing Drake’s previous record with “God’s Plan” from 2018.
The music video for “Not Like Us” has also been a hit, garnering over 40 million views on YouTube in just six days, quickly outpacing the 35 million views Drake’s “Family Matters” video amassed in two months. The visual prominently features Compton-based restaurant Tam’s Burgers, where Kendrick and producer Mustard are seen both inside and outside the establishment.
The exposure from the video has significantly benefited Tam’s Burgers, with the restaurant reporting a 30 to 40 percent increase in business since the video’s release. The owners, who have known Kendrick since he was a teenager, didn’t charge for the filming. Instead, they worked out a deal to have their logo prominently featured in the clip. As a gesture of their appreciation, they have also offered Kendrick a lifetime supply of free meals.
The success of “Not Like Us” and its accompanying video has underscored Kendrick’s perceived victory in his feud with Drake. With the track’s return to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and its impressive streaming numbers, Kendrick has solidified his position as one of the top rappers in the game, while also providing a boost to a local business that has supported him throughout his career.
