Chelsea is actively pursuing a deal to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, with ongoing discussions about Romelu Lukaku moving in the opposite direction.
Initially, Chelsea hesitated due to the high financial implications, but the potential swap involving Lukaku has reignited interest.
Lukaku’s departure would significantly reduce Chelsea’s wage expenses. Finalizing a deal for Osimhen remains challenging but not impossible. Current talks involve a permanent transfer for Lukaku to Napoli, while Osimhen’s move to Chelsea could be structured as either a permanent transfer or an initial loan with an obligation to buy. The latter option appears more feasible for Chelsea.
Agent’s Statement and Napoli’s Position
🇬🇧 I’ve read about unfounded imaginary trades involving Victor, shipped around like a package ready for delivery. But remember that this “package” is the top scorer of the third scudetto in Naples’ history.

Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, recently stated on social media that a straightforward player exchange is unrealistic, describing it as “fantasy” and emphasizing that Osimhen is not simply a player to be delivered quickly. Napoli remains open to a deal for Osimhen, especially after he signed a new contract in December that included a substantial pay rise and a release clause exceeding ÂŁ100 million. The club cannot afford to acquire Lukaku while still having the possibility of Osimhen returning after a loan.
For Napoli to consider any deal, they need assurances that Osimhen would be sold permanently, taking into account both transfer fees and salary. Reports indicate that Osimhen earns more than Lukaku, with an annual salary of €10 million (ÂŁ8.4 million) compared to Lukaku’s €7 million (ÂŁ5.9 million).
Since joining Napoli from Lille in July 2020, Osimhen has scored 76 goals in 133 appearances. While Paris Saint-Germain has shown interest in him, no agreement has been reached, and there is significant interest from Saudi clubs. However, Osimhen prefers to play in the Champions League and is open to a move to Chelsea in the Premier League.
Current Status of Osimhen and Lukaku
Both Osimhen and Lukaku are currently training separately from their respective teams amid the uncertainty surrounding their futures. New Napoli head coach Antonio Conte is keen to sign Lukaku, whom he previously managed at Inter Milan. Lukaku joined Chelsea in August 2021 for ÂŁ97.5 million and spent last season on loan at Roma, where he scored 21 goals in 47 matches across all competitions.
