Will Smith may be on a comeback journey, but his cultural impact remains strong. The series “Bel-Air,” a dramatic reimagining of the iconic “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” is gearing up for its third season. While it shares the same storyline—centered around a character named “Will Smith” (portrayed by Jabari Banks)—the tone of this reboot diverges significantly from the original, which starred Smith himself.
The newly released trailer for season three hints at an even more intense narrative, showcasing scenes filled with beach parties, romantic entanglements, family drama, and protests. This season, “Bel-Air” takes a page from “High School Musical 2,” as Will’s aunt and uncle, played by Cassandra Freeman and Adrian Holmes, encourage him to secure a job at a lavish country club, all while he grapples with his declining basketball skills. In a poignant moment, Will’s father, Lou (Marlon Wayans), expresses his disappointment, saying, “I left behind basketball. That was my way out the hood,” lamenting his son’s choices.
Last season featured a guest appearance by Tatyana Ali, a former cast member from the original series, while this season introduces Joseph Marcell, who played Geoffrey the butler in the original show. He ominously warns in the trailer, “There’s always gonna be a price. That’s on you.” The cast also includes Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, and Jordan L. Jones.
“Bel-Air” season three is set to premiere on August 15 on Peacock.
