Nigerian actress Ini Dima-Okojie has revealed that she is once again facing health challenges due to the return of fibroids, just three years after having them surgically removed. On July 17, 2024, she took to Instagram to share her personal journey and the emotional difficulties she is experiencing with this new diagnosis.
In her post, Dima-Okojie explained, “I want to share something important with you today. If you’ve been following my journey, you might know that I underwent a myomectomy at the end of 2020 to remove fibroids. The surgery was successful, and I healed well, but unfortunately, the fibroids have returned after three years.”
She candidly expressed the emotional impact of the fibroids’ return, stating that it has been challenging to process. Dima-Okojie has decided against undergoing another surgical procedure, opting instead for alternative methods to manage her condition.
“It’s very disheartening, and the past few months have not been easy, but I’m okay. I’ve come to terms with it, and I don’t plan to have another surgery anytime soon. This time, I want to take a holistic approach to shrink the fibroids,” she shared.
The actress emphasized the importance of sharing her story, recalling how her previous revelations resonated with many women who reached out to her with their own experiences. She highlighted the need for greater awareness and conversation surrounding fibroids, particularly in the Black community, where women are disproportionately affected.
“Too many Black women go through this, and it hasn’t been discussed enough. I’m unsure if any remedies are being developed. I plan to fund screenings for 20 women because it’s crucial,” she stated.
