‘Smile 2’ Trailer: A Pop Star Battles an Evil Curse in Paramount’s Horror Sequel

Paramount has debuted the first trailer for “Smile 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2022 horror sensation. Set to premiere on October 18th, the film follows pop star Naomi Scott as she grapples with a malevolent curse that manifests through a chilling smile.

Returning to helm the sequel is Parker Finn, writer and director of the original “Smile,” alongside actor Kyle Gallner, known for his role as police officer Joel. The franchise centers on a relentless demon that drives its victims to suicide by appearing as various people with unnervingly sinister smiles.

The first film concluded with Joel witnessing his ex-girlfriend Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) tragically succumbing to the demon’s influence, setting a grim precedent for his own fate. As the curse spreads from one victim to the next through witnessing deaths caused by the entity, Joel finds himself perilously close to becoming its next target.

Joining the cast are Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula, Raúl Castillo, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley.

Initially planned for streaming on Paramount+, the success of the theatrical release of the first film, which grossed $217 million worldwide, prompted Paramount to greenlight the sequel for cinemas. With expectations high following its predecessor’s success, “Smile 2” could mark the beginning of a new chapter in classic horror franchises.

Reflecting on the possibility of a sequel after the first film, Finn remarked, “There’s still a lot of unexplored territory in the ‘Smile’ universe. I deliberately left some stones unturned.”

“Smile 2” hits theaters on October 18th. Watch the trailer below.
