Ryan Garcia Discusses Boxing Ban, Retirement, and Possible UFC Fight

Ryan Garcia has no plans to retire permanently. The boxing superstar told TMZ Sports that he won’t give his critics the satisfaction of seeing him leave the sport for good. Once his one-year suspension is over, King Ry will return to the boxing ring.

In the meantime, Garcia is open to fighting outside the boxing ring. During an encounter in Los Angeles, the 25-year-old discussed his suspension by the New York State Athletic Commission, his retirement announcement, and his interest in MMA.

Regarding his suspension and the million-dollar purse clawback, Garcia, who also saw his win changed to a “no contest,” expressed his frustration. “It hurts. [Devin’s] a ‘b,’ and his daddy’s a ‘b.’ The only reason I’m not cussing is cause my daughter’s here,” he said, referring to Devin Haney and his father.

Garcia, with a record of 25-1 (1 NC), announced his retirement from boxing last week. However, he clarified that it’s only for a year. “I’m retiring for a year so they don’t get the satisfaction of suspending me cause it’s bull. I never took steroids in my life. They can all suck weiners.”

As part of his retirement announcement, Garcia mentioned a potential move to the UFC. He praised ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley for defending him against cheating allegations and expressed interest in fighting him. “If he really wants to run it in the UFC, I’ll run it. Or bare knuckle. S***, I’m ready to fight anyone at this point,” Garcia said.

Although Garcia isn’t currently signed to the UFC, Dana White, known for his savvy business moves (like arranging the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight), might see the potential in a Garcia vs. O’Malley matchup. Such a fight would undoubtedly attract massive attention.
