Netherlands Clinch Euro 2024 Warm-Up with 4-0 Win Over Iceland

Netherlands wrapped up their preparations for Euro 2024 with a resounding 4-0 triumph over Iceland. Xavi Simons opened the scoring for Ronald Koeman’s squad, followed by goals from Virgil van Dijk, Donyell Malen, and Wout Weghorst. This dominant display in Rotterdam saw the Dutch team showcase their readiness for the upcoming championship, albeit without Frenkie de Jong due to injury.

The hosts took the lead midway through the first half as Joey Veerman and Denzel Dumfries combined effectively to set up Simons for a simple finish. Van Dijk extended the lead early in the second half, heading home from close range after Nathan Ake redirected a corner.

Malen, coming off the bench, sealed the victory in the 79th minute, capitalizing on a through ball from Memphis Depay. Although Depay himself had a goal disallowed after a VAR review, the Dutch didn’t falter, adding a fourth through Weghorst six minutes from time.

With their Euro 2024 opener against Poland approaching, the Dutch team looks formidable, having won six of their last seven matches, including their last three home games, each ending in a 4-0 scoreline. Despite making nine changes from their previous victory over Canada, the outcome remained unchanged, underscoring their depth and consistency.
