According to Deadline, Shawn Levy is being considered to direct Avengers 5, with their sources indicating the potential for over 60 cast members. Unlike previous Avengers movies, Avengers 5 aims to give many characters equal prominence, thereby creating more of an ensemble feature rather than focusing on a few lead characters. However, Disney and Marvel Studios have yet to comment on these reports.
If Levy directs Avengers 5 with such a large cast, it would undoubtedly be thrilling for MCU fans to see over 60 characters in one film. Surpassing the character count of Avengers: Endgame would indeed be a remarkable achievement. Nevertheless, this could also pose challenges for Marvel Studios.
Including over 60 characters in Avengers 5 would make it the most expensive MCU movie to date, especially if former cast members like Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man are brought back. Moreover, Avengers: Secret Wars will need to meet the high expectations set by Avengers 5, a daunting task if the latter succeeds in featuring such a massive crossover.
One possible solution could be to split Avengers 5 into Avengers: Secret Wars – Part I, thus featuring this record-breaking cast across multiple films. Even so, ensuring each character receives adequate development and screen time would be a significant challenge. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will clarify their larger vision for Avengers 5 in the coming months.
