Steve Cooper, 44, has been named the new manager of Leicester City following the team’s promotion to the Premier League. Cooper has signed a three-year contract, committing to the club until 2027. He succeeds Enzo Maresca, who recently departed for Chelsea.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Cooper stated, “I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s First Team Manager. This is a fantastic club with a rich history and passionate supporters. I’m excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League.”
Cooper brings a wealth of experience to Leicester. He previously managed Nottingham Forest, leading them to promotion from the Championship via the play-offs and ensuring their Premier League survival the following season. Despite a challenging 2023/24 campaign, which led to his departure from Nottingham Forest, Cooper opted to wait for a top-flight opportunity rather than accept second-tier offers.
His managerial career also includes successful stints with Swansea City and England’s youth teams, where he coached the under-16 and under-17 sides.
Cooper’s first match as Leicester City’s manager will be against Tottenham on the opening day of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
