For the first time ever, members of the legendary Kuti and Marley music families are coming together for an extraordinary musical collaboration.
Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, and Damian Marley, son of reggae icon Bob Marley, are set to release a groundbreaking single titled “Dey.”
Seun Kuti announced this historic collaboration on his Instagram account on June 19, 2024. The upcoming single marks the inaugural joint effort between artists from these iconic music lineages.
Earlier this year, the movie “One Love” about Bob Marley premiered, featuring a soundtrack with Nigerian stars Wizkid and Bloody Civilian. At the premiere, Zuri Marley, Bob Marley’s granddaughter, expressed her wish for her grandfather to have collaborated with Fela Kuti and Burna Boy.
Though Fela Kuti and Bob Marley never had the chance to work together, Seun Kuti and Damian Marley are fulfilling fans’ dreams with this much-anticipated collaboration.
The track “Dey,” featuring Seun Kuti’s Egypt 80 and Damian Marley, promises to blend the rich sounds of Afrobeat and reggae, creating a unique musical experience for fans worldwide.
Set for release on June 26, 2024, this single precedes Seun Kuti’s upcoming album, which he revealed will be executive-produced by American music legend Lenny Kravitz.
Seun Kuti has previously worked with several international stars, including a collaboration with Janelle Monae on her Grammy Album of the Year-nominated ‘The Age of Pleasure.’ His forthcoming album is expected to feature a diverse array of renowned artists from around the globe.
