Ghanaian Court Orders Auction of Michael Essien’s Properties

Former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder Michael Essien is facing a financial crisis that could result in the loss of his two homes in Ghana.

According to reports, the court-ordered sale of Essien’s properties comes as creditors seek to recover outstanding debts. Reports from Ghana estimate the value of one of these properties to be between $20 million and $30 million.

Essien’s financial troubles stem from substantial loans he took from various banks and financial institutions in Ghana. Struggling to repay these loans, the situation escalated to the point where the court had to intervene. On June 12, 2024, the Deputy Sheriff of the High Court (Commercial Division) issued the order for the sale.
