Donald Glover has released the first trailer for his new movie, “Bando Stone & The New World”, promising an edge-of-your-seat experience. The rapper and actor premiered the two-minute clip in IMAX theaters on Thursday night (June 27) before the screening of A Quiet Place: Day One.
Earlier that day, Glover gave fans a few hours’ notice on Instagram, posting: “Bando Stone trailer is coming tonight @imax” along with a photo of himself holding two cinema tickets.
Produced by RCA and Glover’s creative company, Gilga, the film features Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino) as Bando Stone, a famous musician navigating a post-apocalyptic world, despite his primary talent being singing. The eerie yet comedic trailer depicts Glover’s character joining other survivors to reach safety while facing giant blood-thirsty creatures, electromagnetic traps, and other surreal threats. A poignant question posed to viewers is, “What are you when the world ends?”
In addition to Glover, the movie stars English actress Jessica Allain, known for her roles in horror thrillers such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Fear, and Thriller. “Bando Stone & The New World” will be exclusively available in IMAX theaters, accompanied by a soundtrack album from Childish Gambino, which is expected to be his final full-length release under his rap moniker.
Upcoming Music and Tour
While the official release date for the movie remains undisclosed, Glover has hinted that the album will drop this summer. The project’s lead single, “Lithonia,” is set to release next Friday (July 2), despite having leaked earlier. Glover expressed his frustration over the leak, blaming streaming service Audiomack.
“‘Lithonia’ is coming out July 2nd,” he stated. “That got leaked. It kinda pissed me off, to be honest. That’s another reason why y’all don’t get good shit. For what? It’s not valuable enough. It’s just a single. I know who did it, Audiomack. No soup for you. You’re not getting the album now. That’s what time I’m on.”
Bando Stone & The New World follows Gambino’s earlier 2024 release, Atavista, an updated version of his 2020 album 3.15.20 which dropped in May. Adding to his anticipated music comeback, Glover will embark on a massive world tour spanning North America, Europe, and Oceania from August 2024 to February 2025, joined by genre-bending stars Willow Smith and Amaarae.
