Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has released his first single of 2024, titled “Higher.” The mid-tempo track features an Amapiano production as Burna Boy expresses gratitude for his life, success, and family.
The release of “Higher” comes on the heels of a historic 2023 for Burna Boy. He became the first African artist to perform at the main Grammys ceremony, sharing the stage with 21 Savage and Brandy. Burna Boy also made history as the first Nigerian artist to be nominated as a lead artist outside of the global categories at the Grammys, with his hit single “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” featuring 21 Savage receiving a nod for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Additionally, Burna Boy set records for the highest-grossing concert by an African artist in the United States and the highest-grossing tour by an African artist in Canada. He is also set to make history again with a performance at the London Stadium on June 29, 2024, becoming the first African artist to headline the venue for a second time.
The song’s lyrics and Burna Boy’s recent humanitarian outreach in his hometown of Port Harcourt reflect his state of mind as he celebrates his life and success. “Higher” showcases Burna Boy’s artistry and the continued impact he is making on the global music scene.
